The waters of the Nile flooded the lower floor of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Maadi [Maʿādī], due to the high water-level of the Nile. This led to the sinking of the basement, some rooms, and the walkway of the church, and it also threatened the structural integrity of the ancient church.
The issue of menstruating women still attracts the attention of the Coptic public opinion, and raises controversy between reformist vs. conservative views, and between rejection and acceptance.
Although the Egyptian church allows women access to a number of important positions, such as: nun, devotee, servant, and Guardian of Service and Hymns; there remain other domains that the Church completely prohibits women from accessing.
