This year, there are two summer schools available in our center: one in cooperation with the Anglican Diocese of Egypt for the period July 2-July 9 and a second one at SEKEM farm between July 7 -14. The two summer schools will have different angles. With the Anglican Diocese this will be more academic, targeting students at university level, and with SEKEM this will be more interpersonal.

The theme of the Summer School with the Anglican Diocese of Egypt is: Moving Forward Together: Muslims and Christians together in Egyptian Society. All participants will be hosted in the beautiful All Saint’s Garden Conference Center.

We are realizing that Egypt is country with a great history in Muslim-Christian relations and where many excellent initiatives are taking place in the field of intercultural dialogue. For this reason, the Center for Arab-West Understandinghas built, in cooperation with others, a very large electronic English language database about the role of religion in the wider context of contemporary Egyptian society. The Center for Arab-West Understanding is currently in discussion with Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development (HU) about setting up a research center to foster intercultural dialogue. In this summer school parties are coming together that all advocate intercultural dialogue in one way or the other.

During the summer school we have lectures from excellent scholars as Dr. Matthew Anderson (Georgetown University), Dr. Gamal Greekah [Jamāl Jrīkah] (head of the Center for Dialogue at the Azhar), Dr. Richard Gauvain (British University in Egypt) and others. We also have meetings with dialogue practitioners Father Jo’annis [Yūʾānnis] and Sheikh Hamdi Abdelfattah [Ḥamdī ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ] from Qufada, Maghagha and Hossam Abu Ghadir [Ḥussām Abū Ghadīr], head of the Reconciliation Committee of the Governorate of Assiut.

Last year we were able to organize an extremely successful Summer School in cooperation with the Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development (HU) which resulted in 26 articles and reports that can be found here.

Sign up at [email protected] until June 20. Please send us your CV and letter of motivation. The cost is 75 Euros only for non-Egyptian students and 500 EGP for Egyptian students. Scholarships to waive this admission fee are possible if the student is not capable to contribute this sum.
