All Egyptian churches congratulated Mursī for winning the state’s top post as Coptic movements and citizens urged him to fulfill his promises, including the establishment of a state of citizenship.
Bishop Marqus of Shubrā al-Khaymā, the chairman of the Coptic Orthodox Holy Synod’s Information Committee, said the churches do not have any fears about Mursī’s winning the presidential election race, adding the church completely trusts that God would bestow wisdom on him to be fair to the wronged ones.
Dr. Andrea Zakī, the deputy head of the Coptic Evangelical Church, said no one should jump to conclusions and to give Dr. Mursī the chance to achieve his electoral platform, calling on Copts to be optimistic and be an active part of the national fabric and the Egyptian society.
Father Rafīq Greish, the official spokesman for the Coptic Catholic Church, asked Mursī to show interest in helping the have-nots, appoint a Coptic vice president as he pledged during the national accordance conference and accelerate the adoption of the laws on construction of churches and personal status for non-Muslim.
